The Race

The Wellcome Team FEAR Junior Challenge is an adventure race for young people aged between 8 and 18.  It is held in Discovery Bay at the end of November every year.

Teams swim, run, mountain bike, coasteer, jump into water and solve puzzles around Discovery Bay.

An important part of the Race is the sponsorship that competitors raise for the charity Youth Outreach.  For the last few years we have been able to give over HK$100,000 to the Charity.

There are three age groups with the following categories:

Juniors (Teams of 3)
Under 9 (aged 8 on the day of the race)
Under 10 (aged 9 on the day of the race)
Under 11 (aged 10 on the day of the race)
 
Intermediates (Teams of 2)
Under 12 (aged 11 on the day of the race)
Under 13 (aged 12 on the day of the race)
 
Seniors (Teams of 2)
Under 14 (aged 13 on the day of the race)
Under 16 (aged 15 or under on the day of the race)
Under 19 (aged 18 or under on the day of the race)

 

  



Marshall Volunteer Form

The Race's success and safety record is down to the large number of volunteer marshals we put on the course.  

We need over 200 marshals to ensure that the Race is run smoothly and safely. A huge number of parents have volunteered over the years to help marshal the course but we always struggle to make up the numbers to an acceptable level.

This year we have provided a form online to enable us to gather the marshals earlier in the pre-race stage and to encourage parents to join in what is a great community event.

We would be grateful if AT LEAST two parents from the Junior teams of three and one parent from the Intermediate and Senior teams of two could sign up to be a marshal.

We are reluctant to make this a mandatory requirement – it goes against the spirit in which this race was first started ten years ago but your child’s enjoyment of the race will be greatly enhanced by an adequate number of well briefed marshals whom we very much hope will include you.

Please note marshals do not need to be parents of the competitor. We welcome any enthusiastic volunteer over the age of 16.
